California - Los Angeles County

Program Title
Election Worker Disability Awareness Training Video
Program Summary
The Election Worker Disability Awareness Training video is a tool the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Department developed with cooperation from the Department's Voting Accessibility Advisory Committee (VAAC) to train election workers and election support staff the knowledge of how to interact with voters with disabilities during the election process.

The training video contains vignettes in 9- and 24-minute lengths featuring non-actors and community activists in real scenarios. The video includes closed caption, American Sign Language (ASL) and subtitles in 13 Department mandated languages. This is to ensure that that the video is accessible to all workers and it can also be utilized by community groups to inform their constituents the services the Department provides for voters with disabilities.

This video was produced by utilizing HAVA 101 funds. The concept of the video was directly from the group members' own experiences at vote centers. Their collective expertise helps provide a successful voting experience for all voters.

Making voting accessible to all eligible citizens is a priority for the Department. This video emphasizes the services currently available to accomplish this and reminds us all of the best practices for ensuring our voters with disabilities get the service they deserve.
