Precinct Election Official Recruitment and Voter Outreach Programs
With 65% of Ohio’s poll workers being over 60 and in a high-risk category for COVID-19, ensuring polling locations were fully staffed on Election Day was a daunting task. To solve this problem, Secretary of State LaRose formed a taskforce of leaders from Ohio’s 88 county boards of elections. The Precinct Election Official Working Group launched a recruitment campaign allowing poll workers to earn continuing educational credit for their service. As an example, under the Lawyers for Liberty program, 1,065 attorneys served as polling precinct election officials.
The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) annual Clearinghouse Awards, also known as the “Clearie” Awards, promote best practices in elections and celebrate the accomplishments of election officials across the United States.
