Outstanding Innovations in Elections ‐ Large Jurisdictions
Drop Box Chain of Custody
Pierce County is Washington state's second largest jurisdiction with over 550,000 registered voters. Starting in 2011, the county implemented vote-by-mail. Drop boxes are a vital element to this process. Since the program began, the elections office has made many enhancements to drop boxes that help track ballot pick-up and chain of custody. These improvements also make election workers more efficient and improve access for voters.
