Under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), you may request access to records held by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. The request must include your name and sufficient information for us to contact you, and must reasonably describe the records you are requesting. We will respond to your request within twenty (20) working days.
There are nine statutory FOIA exemptions that authorize the withholding of information in certain specific circumstances. If the EAC withholds information requested in whole or in part, the response you receive will:
-
indicate the exemption(s) claimed
-
describe what the exemption(s) cover
-
explain the procedures for appealing the denial
Before submitting a request, check to see if the information you're interested in is in the FOIA Reading Room, a collection of EAC's most-requested documents.
Please note that due to the coronavirus pandemic receipt and response to mailed FOIA requests may be delayed. To ensure prompt attention to your request please consider submitting via fax or email.
