MIAMI – The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) will host local election officials for a public forum on election security in Miami on April 18, 2018. The forum comes just weeks after the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018 provided $380 million in new Help America Vote Act (HAVA) Election Security Fund grants.
The EAC public forum is the first of its kind ahead of the 2018 election and will be an opportunity for state and local election officials from across the nation to provide statements about their election security efforts. The discussion will also feature details about the new funding and EAC’s leadership efforts in this area.
EAC Chairman Thomas Hicks and Vice Chair Christy McCormick will host the forum, which takes place ahead of the commission’s annual Standards Board and Board of Advisors meeting in Miami. The event will also feature a presentation by Mark Abbott, the EAC’s Director of Grants.
This event is open to the public and will be streamed online. Members of the press are encouraged to RSVP in order to reserve seating and camera space. Those wishing to interview forum speakers should contact Brenda Bowser Soder at (202) 897-9285 or [email protected].

It is an independent, bipartisan commission charged with ensuring secure, accurate and accessible elections by developing guidance to meet HAVA requirements, adopting voluntary voting system guidelines, and serving as a national clearinghouse of information on election administration. EAC also accredits testing laboratories and certifies voting systems, as well as administers the use of HAVA funds. For more information, visit www.eac.gov.
