EAC to Hold VVSG 2.0 Public Hearing on April 10 in Memphis

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) will host a public hearing from 1 – 4 p.m. CDT (2 – 5 p.m. EDT) on April 10 in Memphis to receive testimony on the proposed Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG) 2.0 Principles and Guidelines. The hearing will feature testimony from EAC and NIST staff, as well leaders from the EAC’s Standards Board and Board of Advisors. It will also include a public comment period. The event is open to the public and will be livestreamed on the EAC’s website.

U.S. Election Assistance Commission Announces 42 States and Territories Have Requested Over 75 Percent of HAVA Funds

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) today announced that 42 states and territories have requested a combined $288,882,011 in newly appropriated Help America Vote Act (HAVA) funds, over 76 percent of the total amount available. The announcement comes just over three months after Congress passed the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018, which allocated $380 million in election security funds to all 50 states, the District of Columbia and four U.S. territories.

Hicks Named New Election Assistance Commission Chairman

Commissioner Thomas Hicks has been selected to serve as Chairman of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), a position effective Feb. 24. He will be Chairman for one year and will continue to serve alongside EAC Commissioners Christy McCormick, who now moves to the role of Vice Chair, and Commissioner Matthew Masterson, who served as chairman during the past year. Hicks previously served as Chairman from February 2016 to February 2017.

U.S. EAC Certifies ClearVote 1.4 Election System

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) has certified Clear Ballot Group’s ClearVote 1.4 voting system, verifying its compliance with current federal standards. The determination came after a thorough test campaign conducted by EAC and Pro V&V in Huntsville, Ala. This is the first system certification for the Boston-based Clear Ballot Group.
