This week, the EAC launched the fourth annual Clearinghouse Awards, better known as the “Clearies.” In conjunction with our call for submissions, during September and October, we are highlighting past Clearie entrants and awardees. Recently, I interviewed Michele White, Director of Elections and General Registrar for Virginia’s Prince William County Office of Elections, regarding their 2018 Clearie submission.

EAC Opens Submission Period in Fourth Annual Competition for Clearinghouse Awards: Celebrating Best Practices in Election Administration

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) is seeking submissions for its fourth annual national Clearinghouse Awards. Dubbed the “Clearies” for short, the awards provide election offices an opportunity to share their innovative efforts and celebrate successes. The Clearies play an important role in furthering the EAC’s responsibilities under the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA). Under that Act, the EAC serves as a clearinghouse for election administration information.

EAC Commissioners Praise Microsoft Support for Election Officials as 2020 Presidential Election Approaches

Today, following a Microsoft announcement that the company will provide free Windows 7 support to all election officials operating certified election systems that utilize the “end of life” software, U.S. Election Assistance Commission Chairwoman Christy McCormick, Vice Chair Ben Hovland, Commissioner Thomas Hicks and Commissioner Donald Palmer issued the following joint statement.

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) will host its final public hearing to receive testimony and public comments on the proposed Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG) 2.0 Principles and Guidelines from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. EDT on Monday, May 20, 2019 at its Silver Spring headquarters.

Board of Advisors Meeting

The Board of Advisors will receive an overview and updates on EAC agency operations. The Board will hold an Intel briefing discussion, a panel discussion on Disaster Management & Recovery Working Group presentations, an EAVS presentation, and a panel discussion on accessibility. The Board will receive updates on the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines (VVSG) 2.0 Principles and Guidelines. The Board of Advisors will hold discussions on the VVSG 2.0’s Technical Requirements.
